Stephen G. Smith, M.D.

Dr. Stephen Smith is a highly experienced Interventional Pain Specialist with more than 20 years of experience in the field. He is board certified by both the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Smith attended medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham before completing his Anesthesiology Residency at St. Louis University Health Sciences Center in Missouri. As an attending physician, he specialized in chronic and acute pain management.

Dr. Smith spent most of his career in Missouri, where he was Director of Pain Management at Christian Hospital Northeast and Northwest in St. Louis for a decade. He then owned and directed the Midwest Pain Center and Interventional Pain Center of Chesterfield surgery center for 15 years while also serving as Medical Director of SSM DePaul Pain Care from 2010 to 2019. In 2019, he relocated to Englewood, FL, where he opened Englewood Pain Management. Dr. Smith is excited to join the Ramos Center and continue treating chronic pain sufferers in Englewood and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Smith is a devoted family man, married with four children. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, reading, and quoting his favorite movies. His experience and dedication make him a valuable addition to the Ramos Center for Interventional and Functional Pain Medicine.

Samuel A. Amen, M.D.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, Dr. Samuel Alan Amen, MD, DABAM, FASAM, played intercollegiate football for a couple of years and completed Officers Candidate School with the US Marine Corps in Quantico VA. After serving on medical missions in the Ecuadorian jungle and Galapagos Islands, he decided to enter pre-medical studies at Arizona State University, where he found his calling.

Dr. Amen completed his medical studies at the University of Oklahoma, where he also completed a one-year internship in Internal Medicine. He began his one-year Residency in Anesthesia at the University of Southern California, but family circumstances led him back to Michigan, where he started practicing men’s health and became licensed in nine states, providing medical services at various clinics across the country. Dr. Amen then returned to the University of Oklahoma to complete his Residency in Internal Medicine.

He continued his training with Fellowship training in Pain Management and Addiction Medicine, and then joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa School of Community Medicine. Dr. Amen found great satisfaction in treating patients with chronic pain and opioid addiction. He helped establish a successful private practice in Pain Management and Addiction Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before relocating with his wife and two children to Sarasota, FL.
