Samuel A. Amen, M.D.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, Dr. Samuel Alan Amen, MD, DABAM, FASAM, played intercollegiate football for a couple of years and completed Officers Candidate School with the US Marine Corps in Quantico VA. After serving on medical missions in the Ecuadorian jungle and Galapagos Islands, he decided to enter pre-medical studies at Arizona State University, where he found his calling.

Dr. Amen completed his medical studies at the University of Oklahoma, where he also completed a one-year internship in Internal Medicine. He began his one-year Residency in Anesthesia at the University of Southern California, but family circumstances led him back to Michigan, where he started practicing men’s health and became licensed in nine states, providing medical services at various clinics across the country. Dr. Amen then returned to the University of Oklahoma to complete his Residency in Internal Medicine.

He continued his training with Fellowship training in Pain Management and Addiction Medicine, and then joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa School of Community Medicine. Dr. Amen found great satisfaction in treating patients with chronic pain and opioid addiction. He helped establish a successful private practice in Pain Management and Addiction Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before relocating with his wife and two children to Sarasota, FL.

Dr. Amen is excited to join the Ramos Center for Interventional & Functional Pain Medicine and to bring his unique and much-needed skill set to serve patients within our community.
